INIA new international terminal project awarded to Saudi Binladin Group

Construction of new international terminal at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) has been awarded to biggest construction company in Saudi Arabia - Saudi Binladin Group.

The new terminal will be built on 73,000 square meters of reclaimed land at the airport.

Construction of the new terminal was launched in a ceremony held on the reclaimed land on Saturday night by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The agreement for the project was signed by Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) - Adhil Moosa, and representative of Saudi Binladin Group - Abdul Aziz Bin Laden.

Speaking during Saturday night's ceremony, Adhil Moosa said that the newly launched project was one of the costliest of the major USD 800 million airport development project - which also includes building a 3,400-meter long, 65-meter wide runway.

The cost of construction of the new international terminal - awarded to Saudi Binladin Group - is unclear at this point.
