Captain arrested after boat collision damages Tsunami Monument Square

The Captain of a boat that collided with the railing of the Tsunami Monument Square at the southwest harbor has been arrested.

Although no one was injured in the collision that took place around 10:30 a.m. this morning, the railing on the southwest side of the Square was damaged.

Police Media Official Ismail Ali said that about 25 feet the railing was damaged on a southwest side after a cargo boat, Fresh-6, hit the railing.

The Captain of Fresh-6 has been arrested by the Police following the incident.

The official twitter account of the Housing Ministry tweeted pictures of the damages at the Tsunami Monument Square and the damages to the cargo boat that hit the railing.

The Tsunami Monument was relocated to the former “Thinruh Park” was remodeled as the Tsunami Monument Square in a project of about a MVR 3 million. The new Tsunami Monument Square was opened on 13 March 2016 by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
