High Commission: No Maldivian affected by flooding in Lanka

Maldivian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, Zahiya Zareer has said that they had not received information of any Maldivian in Sri Lanka being affected by flooding and mudslides in the country.

Sri Lanka hosts a population of about 13,000 Maldivians living there.

Zahiya said that despite having received no reports of bodily harm or any damage to possessions used by Maldivians living there, some of the areas that Maldivians live in had also experienced slight flooding.

“No Maldivian has reached out to us for assistance. We have not received any such information,” said Zahiya.

There have been 19 confirmed deaths so far in landslides resulting from heavy rain and flooding in Sri Lanka.

About 350,000 Sri Lankans have been made homeless.
