Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has advised patients to use their emergency gate instead of main entrance as floodwater lies in front of the emergency entrance, inconveniencing patients arriving and leaving the hospital.
“Sun” reporters observed elderly patients and handicapped individuals having to enter and exit through the floodwater which lies ankle-high in front of IGMH main entrance.
When asked about this inconvenience, media official of the hospital, Zeenath Ali Habeeb said that patients can use the emergency gate instead of going through the floodwater.
“Patients who are on foot can also use the gate. The police post will also allow taxis that arrive on emergency to enter the gate,” said Zeenath.
The gate is usually not open for general use due to difficulties that may arise for ambulances to enter and exit the gate, as it is a one-way street.
The area where IGMH is located has suffered the worst of the flooding in Male’, from the tropical cyclone “Roanu”, hovering over Maldives and Sri Lanka.
