The Maldivian government has signed an agreement with Kuwait to provide mutual support in trade and economy.
At a special ceremony held at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) today, Economic Minister, Mohamed Saeed signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldives with the Kuwait Minister for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Yusuf Mohamed Ali.
Talking to the press after the signing ceremony, Minister Saeed said that the agreement signed today would build the trust in trade and investments between the two countries.
Noting the Maldivian government’s effort to establish trade agreements with different countries, Economic Minister Saeed said that reaching an agreement with Kuwait in such a short period of time proves as the government efforts as a success.
“In Maldives, Kuwait businesses would increase. Especially to the tourism sector (businesses) would increase.” Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
The Minister said that the Kuwait government would also be helping in the development of INIA and Kuwait is already part of the funding for the new terminal at the airport.
“Terminal is being funded through a syndicate loan from different countries. From Gulf region, (from) allied nations (at a) low price. From that one partner is Kuwait.” Minister Saeed said.
