Cafés to close at 3 a.m. in Ramadan, Shops at 11 p.m.

Economic Ministry has said that cafés can stay open until 3 a.m. and shops at 11 p.m. during the month of Ramadan and the first seven days of Shawal that follows.

An announcement made by the Ministry said that all tea shops, restaurants and cafeterias and such must be opened between the sunsets of everyday to 3 a.m.

Last year, the ministry permitted cafés and restaurants to keep open until 2 a.m.

While the cafés and such has received permits to stay open until 3 a.m., the football festival of the year, Euro 2016 would begin on 10 June and continue all the way to 10 July.

By law, cafés and restaurants must be closed by 12 a.m. and shops at 10 p.m.

The change was made following an increase of the number of people staying up late and night and the crime rate going up.
