Police have started clearing out Maldivian Democratic Party and Progressive Party of Maldives stations in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo as they are built illegally on state property.
Police media official informed “Sun” that officers started clearing out the stations on Wednesday after it was requested to them through a letter by Kudahuvadhoo Council.
“Sun” has been informed that the two political party stations were built on land belonging to the Council. And that they had sent notice of foreclosure to both parties.
President of Kudahuvadhoo Council, Mohamed Zameer Ismail spoke to “Sun” and said that PPM and MDP stations were built on land made available for social projects. And that both Local Government Authority and Housing Ministry had told them political activities could not be run on such land.
Zameer said that the Council had held discussions with all political parties operating on the island regarding the issues. And that both PPM and MDP had agreed to clear out the land, themselves.
“We gave one month. When we gave them one month, they cleared some items and kept some. It was like that, without everything being cleared. So we talked to authorities regarding the issue. And police are doing it today,” said Zameer.
