Information published by National Bureau of Statistics show that there are 1,878 children aged between 15-17 years working in the country – making up for 1.29 percent of total working population of the country.

The most number of children who are employed belong to H. A. Atoll – 35 percent of whom are working while studying.
The second highest number of working children come from H. Dh. Atoll, followed by the capital – Male’.
30.7 percent of the children are employed in trade and mechanical workshops. And 19.2 percent in agriculture and fishing industry.

15.0 percent of the children are employed in different jobs in education sector.
