President inaugurates Saudi-funded Maavashu mosque

President Abdulla Yameen, on Monday, inaugurated Masjid al-Bilal – built in L. Maavashu with non-reimbursable financial aid provided by Saudi Arabian government.

The mosque has capacity to host 500 people. And cost MVR 5.4 million to build.

Islamic Ministry has said that construction work on the mosque began on April 10, 2014, and ended on June 16, 2015.

President Yameen is on an official visit to L. Atoll and has commemorated renaming of Kaddhoo Airport to “Iskandhar Air Base”.

He is also scheduled to commemorate relocation of people from Gaadhoo to Fonadhoo.

He is accompanied on the visit by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyad, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer, and Defense Minister Adam Shareef.
