Man falls into ditch in flooded street with motorbike

A man was injured after falling into the area dug up in Ameenee Magu, made undistinguishable in the flooding resulting from pouring rain on Monday afternoon.

The area in Ameenee Magu was dug up – ironically – to bury a pipe to provide a solution to flooding.

Pouring rain which has been hitting Male’ since Monday afternoon quickly flooded up Ameenee Magu and made the area dug up indistinguishable from the rest of the street.

The man had been driving on the street on his motorcycle down the narrow path available for vehicles to travel on, when he fell into the dug up area with his motorbike.

Safety measures around the area dug up – which stretches from Disaster Management Center to Stelco – proved insufficient, though Maldives Road Development Corporation had put up some boards and used tape to mark around stretches of the dug up area.

The flimsy tape now lies beneath the flood water.

A similar incident took place a few nights back when another man fell into the dug up area on Ameenee Magu with his motorbike.

In addition to Ameenee Magu, the area near Swimming Track on Boduthakurufaanu Magu has also been dug up and could prove risky in this bad weather.
