An employee of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and two others have been charged with attempting to steal MVR 13.9 million from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
Shiuth Mohamed from Blackbird in G. Dh. Thinadhoo – who had been employed as a cargo officer with MACL – has been pressed with two charges; planning a robbery and doing something inappropriate in carrying out official duties.
The charge against Shiuth says that he had taken actions to facilitate a robbery as instructed by Ahmeez Saeed from Fehivinamaage in G. Dh. Hoandeddhoo.
Rules broken by Shiuth while employed with MACL:
• Videoing inside cargo service during his duty time and showing the recording to Ahmeez.
• Drawing a chart of cargo service on his phone with spots marked on where security officers are stationed and showing it to Ahmeez.
• Showing Ahmeez where valuables lockers are located.
• Showing Ahmeez photographs of packages cash by Bank of Maldives to MACL to send to atolls.
• Helping Hussain Shahubaan from Sabnam Villa in L. Maabaidhoo to go valuables lockers inside cargo service office.
Ahmeez has been charged with planning a robbery.
While Shahubaan has been charged with deliberately entering a restricted area without authorization, and attempting a robbery.
Shahubaan had entered INIA cargo service at around 3:45 am, January 24, and attempted to steal MVR 13.9 million.
The case was sent to Criminal Court on April 14.
The three suspects are currently under house arrest.
