Police have decided not to file the charges at the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office against the journalists that were arrested in the protest on 3 April in front of the President’s Office calling for the rights of journalists.
Media Official of the Police told Sun Media tonight that the journalists have been counseled case have been filed without pressing charges.
Police arrested 19 journalists from Haveeru News, Raajje TV, Sangu TV, V News and Maldives Independent during the dispersal of the protest led by the journalists in front of the President’s Office to meet with the President calling for the rights of the journalists. They were all released in less than 24 hours.
The journalists who were detained summoned to the Police Station the day after their release to give their statements.
