Sentencing on Hana’s appeal set for tomorrow

The sentencing hearing of the appeal by Fathmath Hana, who was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court for the murder of the attorney and author, Ahmed Najeeb, has been scheduled for tomorrow.

Hana was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court for the murder on 19 July 2012.

Days after the initial hearings ended, they were resumed after the judge’s bench went under changes. The sentencing hearing is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow.

The overseeing the case was led by Judge Ali Sameer and joined by Judge Abdulla Didi, Judge Abdulla Hameed, Judge Shujau Usman and Judge Abdul Rauf Ismail.

Murrath, Hana’s lover who was also involved in the murder, appealed his death sentence, but lost the appeal when High Court ruled in favor of the original death sentence by the Criminal Court.

Ahmed Murrath confessed at the lower court that on the night of 1 July 2012, He and Hana tied the hands and legs of Ahmed Najeeb when he returned home to M. Masrooraage to an office chair and cover his mouth with box tape at the part of the house where he Hana lived.

And Murrath confessed that he took a four-inch knife with a black handle and stabbed him in the neck and killed him with rage when Najeeb would not stay silent.
