Defense Minister: President unrivaled in political field

Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said that there was no worthy rival for President Abdulla Yameen in Maldivian politics right now.

Speaking during ceremony held to mark the end of symposium held in R. Atoll to train campaign managers for Yameen for Presidential Elections 2018, Adam Shareef said that a look at major development projects by government alone proved that Yameen was unrivaled in political field.

Adam Shareef said that Yameen needed to be elected for a second time for the good of the country, or else the development projects started by his administration would be abandoned.

“Looking at the wisdom and effort exercised by this administration, and the various projects by President to develop the country, I believe that there is no one in the political field right now who can rival President Yameen,” said Adam Shareef.

Adam Shareef said that Yameen provided the opportunity for all cabinet ministers and parliamentarians to exude their authority and prerogative, and that he followed the law when constricting the authority they are due when they “betray” him.

He said that with Yameen’s efforts, Maldives would become a second Singapore by the end of his second term.

He also said that Yameen was the leader the people of the country wanted – because he remained undaunted and went ahead with his leadership despite efforts by foreign parties to interfere in internal affairs of the country.

“Maldives, and we Maldivians want to live undaunted and with honor. Foreign countries need not come here and preach us. We will maintain the sovereignty of this country,” said Adam Shareef.

The Defense Minister also commended First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim – calling her Yameen’s better half, and the most hardworking and courageous woman in the country.

“I want to note that she is someone who is putting a lot of effort into caring for children who are in need of help. She gives priority to orphans. She is a role model to all Maldivian women,” he said.

The symposium was held in R. Atoll from May 5 – 8, and was attended by senior government officials and heads of companies.
