Former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been conferred Honorary Fellow of Royal Institute of Singapore – the highest honor bestowed by the institution to leaders in different areas.
Maumoon was awarded on Saturday, during the 7th Global Conference of Royal Institute held at Hotel Jen.
Maumoon – leader of ruling political party in the country – Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – has also made history as the first person from South Asia to be bestowed the honor.
He was bestowed the honor for his work to develop the country and provide a prosperous life for Maldivian citizens.
In his acceptance speech, Maumoon said that Royal Institute played a key role in regional development.
Meanwhile, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Deputy Leader Aishath Raffiyya also made history by becoming the first Maldivian to be conferred Fellow of Royal Institute.
Royal Institution is a global, multidisciplinary, professional membership and accrediting institution and operates as a platform for international networking and collaboration.
It celebrates the achievements of academics, professionals, businessmen, entrepreneurs, leaders, graduates and students, and confers a globally recognized status.
People who have spoken in Saturday’s conference include MDA leader and Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, former Health Minister and Chairperson of Institute for Counselling and Psychotherapy (ICP) – parented by SIMIDI Group – Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, and President of Civil Service Commission – Dr. Ali Shameem.
