Sierra Construction Private Limited has been hired to build water and sewerage system for Gn. Fuvahmulah, with agreement between the government and the company signed on Thursday.
The agreement was signed on behalf of government by Environment Minister Toriq Ibrahim in a ceremony held at Environment Ministry.
And on behalf of Sierra Construction by the company’s Managing Director Nimal Lokuge.

Toriq said that Sierra Construction had been given a MVR 285 million project – MVR 110 million out of which was budgeted, and the rest – funded through a loan from Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development.
Sierra Construction will be building a water system in Fuvahmulah – including three 500-ton water plants and a sewerage network – including sewage treatment plant. As well as a 110 kilowatt solar-power system.

The company has been tasked to complete the project within 21 months – starting after Ramadan.
Eight companies proposed bids during pre-qualification stage for the project, and three companies afterwards – with Sri Lankan company Sierra winning the bid.
