Met issues flood warning to Male’, islands

National Meteorological Center has issued warning that Male’ and some of the islands in the country normally susceptible to flooding are at risk within the next two, three days.

Met Office said that flooding was being seen in Raalhugandu area of Male’ since Wednesday.

Met Office Director Ahmed Rasheed spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that while all of Maldives won’t experience flooding, islands in areas of the country usually susceptible to flooding are at risk until Monday.

“Some of the areas that usually experience flooding may be affected during high tide. But we don’t forecast anything out of usual happening,” said Ahmed.

The tide is at its highest at noon and midnight these days.

Ahmed said that the flooding was due to strong winds being experienced outside the country.
