Police begins implementing court order to charge the custody of a two year old to the mother

Police have begun implementing a court order from the Family Court that ruled in favor of the mother awarding her the custody of a two year old.

Infromation Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali told Sun Media tonight that when a unit from the A.Dh. Mahibadhoo Police Station went to A.A. Himandhoo to implement the court order, the father fled with the child.

The ruling from the Family Court ordered the father to hand over the child to the mother in seven days from April 14. And ordered the Maldives Police Service to take appropriate action against any who obstruct or neglect the change of custody. The child was being looked after by the grandmother on the child’s father’s side at the time.

The Police was contradicted by the family of the father and told Sun Media that the father is in his home with the child.

And said that the father is not refusing to the change of custody to the mother and the child is repeatedly saying that he does not want to go the mother.

The person who talked on behalf of the father’s family said that when the Police attempted to forcefully take the child, a group of people from the island came out and said not to do it and the Police left the island.

Police have refuted to the family’s side of the story. The Police Informationa Officer said that neither the father nor the child was present at the house when the Police searched it.
