A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening abducted Independent News – then Minivan News – journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla’s brother, Moosa Rilwan.
An official from Prosecutor General’s Office informed “Sun” on Monday that the man arrested for threatening Rilwan’s brother was Ibrahim Aleef Rauf from H. Hilton. And that he was arrested on April 20.
According to the official, Criminal Court had transferred Aleef to house arrest, which was appealed at High Court on April 24.
High Court is yet to make a ruling regarding the issue.
Aleef is brother of Ahmed Aalif Rauf – the man who owns the red car Rilwan was put into after being abducted from Hulhumale’ nearly two years ago – on August 8, 2014.
Meanwhile, their fellow sibling Azlif Rauf – who was suspected of planning the murder of popular politician and religious scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali – is also a key suspect in Rilwan’s abduction.
Gossip has spread that Azlif had died fighting for Islamic State in Syria – which has not been confirmed by government. All government has confirmed is that Azlif is no longer in Maldives.
