A Yellow Alert has been issued to the central Maldives due to the heavy rains with thunder across the country.
Yellow Alerts are issued to order a stand by for emergency situations. While such an alert is in effect for strong winds, thunder storms and the possibility of a tornado, sea travels are not safe.
The MET Office issued the warning today from 11:20 a.m. onwards. They said that the current rainfall across the country would continue up to tomorrow morning.
While the MET Office has warned that the northern atolls would also be affected by the rain, the central and southern atolls are expected to experience strong winds and heavy downpour with thunder.
