The State has said that they would be presenting the man who prepared the IED that was detonated on board the Presidential Launch “Finifenma” as witness against the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb.
At the hearing today on the charges against the former Vice President, the State Prosecutor said that an IED was prepared for the Presidential Launch on Adheeb’s orders and they would be presenting the man who prepared it as a witness.
However, the State did not release any information on who it was that prepared the IED.
Among the military personnel that were arrest regarding the case, there are those who are capable of preparing such a device. Mohamed Jawaz, who worked at the armory, was involved in the firework displays. He is known at MNDF as a “skilled” person at it.
The former Vice President has been charged with Misuse of Official Authority and Terrorism for his involvement in the Presidential Launch explosion.
The explosion onboard the Presidential Launch in 28 September 2015 left a number of people injured including the First Lady, Fathimath Ibrahim. President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom escaped unharmed.
Since the charges were brought up for his suspected involvement, then Vice President, Adheeb has been maintaining his plea of not guilty.
