Youngman who fell from a tree in F. Nilandhoo dies

Shimaz Rafeeq, 34, from G. A. Vilingili, injured after falling from a tree in F. Nilandhoo on February 8 passed away early Thursday morning.

An individual from Shimaz’s family who spoke to “Sun” said that he passed away at 1:10 am, while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Shimaz, who was married to a woman from F. Nilandhoo, was initially treated at IGMH but later taken to a hospital in Chennai, India for surgery on February 12.

He spent the next two months, 13 days hooked to a ventilator – which led to a lung infection, turning his condition direr.

He was brought back to Maldives last Friday.

Shimhaz’s family said that he received extensive injuries – including a broken backbone.

The family said that Shimaz has now been buried after funeral prayer.
