Maldives Media Council has informed the Home Minister Umar Naseer of the concerns among the journalists.
The statement issued by the MMC on their meeting with the Home Minister said that the Home Minister assured he would work so that journalism would not be at a loss.
MMC held a forum on Monday to take in the concerns of the journalists. The challenges in journalism and field work were highlighted at the forum.
Home Minister accepted the concerns of the journalists regarding the defamation bill at the meeting held today on the Minister’s request according to MMC.
The Home Minister assured the MMC that the relevant institutes would be discussed with before moving with the next phase of the bill.
The concerns of the journalists regarding the treatment of some media outlets in regards to press conferences were shared with Minister Umar. According to MMC, the Minister assured that he would work to establish an equality system for the media.
MMC also shared the concerns from the media that some outlets are not allowed to courtrooms. Home Minister said that he would discuss with officials from judiciary to seek a solution.
