The American Senate has passed a resolution calling to get justice for the Former President, Mohamed Nasheed,who has been sentenced to 13 years in orison after being convicted of terrorism, and other politically prisoners in the Maldives.
The resolution that passed with the support of Republicans and the Democrats yesterday says that they are concerned about the proceedings of the unjust trial of the former president.
And it called the Maldivian government to take the necessary steps to find justice for President Nasheed and free all the political prisoners.
The resolution was presented at the senate by the ranking member of the Appropriation Subcommittee, Senator Patrick Healy and the Chairman of the Senate Armed Service Committee, Senator John McCain.
According to the resolution, the violation of Civil Rights in the Maldives is threatening the stability of the region.
Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed is currently in UK for a spine surgery. But with the expiration of his medical leave, the Corrections Service have asked the former President on Wednesday to return to the country.
President Nasheed left o UK for medical treatment on 21 January 2016.
