Police have rescued 10 people who were left stranded in the ocean after a yellowfin tuna fishing boat sunk, early Wednesday morning.
Police have said that all 10 people onboard the yellowfin tuna fishing boat was called “Ensis 104” when it sank have been rescued, and that they are now being transported to Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.
The 10 people include 9 expatriate workers and a Maldivian.
Police have said that the general state of the 10 people was good, though some of them suffered injuries.
The boat had sunk at around 2:30 am, about 50 miles outside Kudahuvadhoo.
Police said that the incident was reported to them at 12:30 pm.
The 10 people had climbed onboard a life raft, and had set off flares at around 4:30 am to show that they were in distress.
They had been provided assistance by the boat “Blue Fish1” from H. A. Thuraakunu which saw the flare.
Both Blue Fish 1 and police are working on transporting the stranded passangers to Kudahuvadhoo.
Police have also contacted the company which operates the boat which they were on, so that they can be sent to Male’.
