Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdulla Ziyath, and businessman Hamid Ismail have repeated their earlier statement that they cannot provide detailed response to charges of treason against them until they receive documents relevant to the case.
A member of Adeeb’s family who was present during Tuesday’s hearing reported that the three defense lawyers repeated what they said during the previous hearing – that they couldn’t provide a proper response to the charges against their clients until they receive documents relevant to the case.
All three defendants had denied the charges against them.
They have been accused of treason involving the USD 5 million in acquisition cost for leasing Lh. Maabinhuraa for development as a tourist resort.
Ziyath has been charged with taking the USD 5 million cheque that should have gone to state, while Adeeb and Hamid have been charged with being complicit in the crime.
