Mohamed Shaheeb was appointed President, and Mohamed Aslam as Vice President of Broadcasting Commission of Maldives (BroadCom) on Tuesday.
BroadCom said that Shaheeb and Aslam were assigned the posts with the unanimous vote of all BroadCom members.
Six people nominated by President Abdulla Yameen for BroadCom membership after current term ended were appointed to the commission on Tuesday, after they gained Majlis approval on Monday.
People approved by Majlis for BroadCom:
1. Mohamed Shaheeb, H. Reethigasdhoshuge
2. Zeena Zahir, G. A. Gadhdhoo, Athireege
3. Aminath Saharath Izzath, G. Gofi
4. Fathimath Zaina, K. Dhiffushi, Huvandhumaage
5. Ismail Sofwan, Lh. Hinnavaru, Falaha
6. Hassan Nabah, V. Veronica
They were given their letters of appointment in a ceremony held at President’s Office.
Sofwan and Nabah had received below 75 percent points during People’s Majlis Committee for Independent Institutions evaluation; while Mariyam Waheeda – who scored highest during committee evaluation failed to garner approval.
