Health Minister Iruthisham Adam has said that a decision has been made to take firm action such as dismissal against healthcare employees that are found negligent after investigating reports including.
Speaking at a press conference at the Health Ministry today, Minister Iruthisham said that the Ministry is receiving complains about doctors, nurses and technicians at the healthcare centers in the country and if it reported against, it would be independently investigated as an issue of quality of service.
The Minister said that if any injury or loss is occurred, it needs to be determined if it was via natural causes, medically or through negligence.
And if there if negligence is proven, the Minister said that firm steps would be taken against the guilty party.
A number of alleged medical negligence cases have risen recently including the administration of a wrong injection and a patient that went through a cesarean section (C-section) that was unconscious for days.
The Health Minister said that it is questionable that such cases surfaced all at the same time and all the cases are created at the “Point of Evacuation” or when the patient is moved from one place to another.
“Ministry of Health with the support of MNDF provides the Sea Ambulance operations. Under Aasandha the evacuation services are done. Health (Ministry) does these things with the support of a lot of people.” Minister Iruthisham said.
