Man arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting minor

A man has been arrested from H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl over a number of days.

Police media official said that the suspect arrested in the case was a 51-year-old Maldivian man.

He was arrested on March 24 for repeatedly forcing himself over the girl.

Court has ordered that the man be kept under arrest for an initial remand period of 10 days, as the police conduct their investigation.

Reported cases of child abuse – physical, mental and sexual – perpetrated on children, regardless of gender, has been on the rise in the country.
