Opposition party – Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has withdrawn the vote of no-confidence they pressed against Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed.
Member of MDP Parliamentary Group, Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussein spoke to “Sun” on Sunday and said that the decision to withdraw the vote of no-confidence had been made after considering the opinions expressed by members during an MDP PG Group meeting.
“It was discussed during the PG Group meeting that this is not the most appropriate time to press the issue,” said Mohamed Rasheed.
The vote of no-confidence on Maseeh was pushed into Majlis by MDP on March 8.
The decision to pull the vote comes after Maseeh has been served notice regarding the vote.
MDP had said earlier that they had decided to press for a no-confidence vote after Maseeh continued to repeatedly violate the authority, responsibilities and duties as the Speaker of Majlis, despite all that being written in detail in Majlis rules and regulations.
The party said that Maseeh was tarnishing the honor and prestige of People’s Majlis, and that his actions were curtailing members from achieving objectives of the Majlis.
