Man arrested for repeated physical, emotional abuse of minor

A man has been arrested for repeated physical and emotional abuse of a 16-year-old boy.

Police have said that the man arrested in relation is 37 years old.

He was arrested at 10 am, Saturday morning after court issued a subpoena for his arrest in relation to police follow up on a report of an abuse case.

Court ordered during the man’s arraignment that he be kept under arrest in a place chosen by

Home Ministry for an initial period of 15 days as police investigate the case.

There has been an uptick in number of reported cases of abuse in Maldives – sexual, physical and emotional – perpetrated on both male and female children.
