High Court has issued a Monitor and Control "MoniCon" order against six gang members.
Police said that the Home Minister, Umar Nasser ordered them to acquire a MoniCon against 11 gang members today through the High Court. And with the Court order issued against six of them, the Police is working to implement the order.
All six of the gang members who has a MoniCon against them are repeat offenders of major gang crimes dangerous to the society.
Maldives Police Service said that they have asked the High Court to issue a MoniCon against five more gang members today.
The MoniCon orders has so far been issued against Fazeel Ahmed, 25, Mohamed Shaabil Ismail, 23, Midhuhath Abubakuru, 20, Fassaan Waleed, 20, Arhif Abdul Haleen, 24, Ahmed Rizam, 26.
Monitoring Criteria of the MoniCon:
- The subjects cannot leave their residence from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Cannot leave Male City without the Home Minister's permission.
- Cannot enter certain areas designated on the order.
- Steps to control property and financial transactions.
- Control communication.
- Appear at the Police Station to give signature.
- Monitor and Control subjects with fingerprints and electronic tracking at home and person.
Police said that the society would be much calmer with such repeat offenders, especially gangs at certain areas being under control.
And legal action would be taken against those who violates the MoniCon order.
Police said that a structure has been established to effectively monitet and control to implement the order.
