Humaam’s appeal case to begin at Supreme Court on Monday

The appeal hearing of Hussain Humaam Ahmed's death sentence, after being convicted of murder of the Religious Scholar and MP for Ungoofaaru constituency, Dr. Afrashim Ali, has been scheduled at the Supreme Court for Monday.

First hearing in the appeal has been scheduled to 11 a.m. this Monday.

Dr. Afrashim was murdered between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. on the night of 1 October 2012 while entering his residence at H. Funviluge after coming back from a religious program of TVM.

Lower court sentenced Humaam to death for the murder of Dr. Afrashim on 16 January 2015. High Court supported the sentenced on 7 September 2015.

The case was appealed at the Supreme Court by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office).

On 6 March 2016, Humaam was summoned to the Supreme Court for a preliminary hearing.

Sources say that Humaam was given the relevant documents on his case at the preliminary hearing.
