Environment Ministry has said that a Solar Energy system capable of producing 1.6 megawatt would be established in the linked islands of Addu City next month.
The information released by the Ministry on the government’s efforts in the energy industry says that the equipment to needed to establish the 1.6 megawatt system would be arriving in the country in mid-April. And they would be installed on the roofs by the end of April.
A team from the Ministry is active in the city doing the necessary studies to install solar energy panels in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo of Addu City.
The Ministry said that the installation of solar energy panels would begin in four other atolls next month.
And so a 200 kilowatt system is to be installed in B. Goedhoo while a 300 kilowatt system would be installed in Lh. Kurendhoo. Th. Buruni would be getting a 100 kilowatt along with a 300 kilowatt system in G.A. Villingili.
Environment Ministry said that they have completed the research to upgrade the electricity system to renewable energy in the inhabited islands of H.A. Atoll and the research in Sh. Atoll is scheduled to begin this month.
The government aims to provide 30 percent of the highest load of electricity during day-time to be provided by renewable energy by the 2018.
