Bisham: Facing challenges since some laws are not passed

Prosecutor General (PG), Aishath Bisham has said that they are facing challenges to work since the Parliament has not passed some of the laws.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Strategic Plan for 2016-2019 by the Prosecutor General’s Office at Bandos Island Resort tonight, PG Bisham said that it is important for laws such as Evidence and Witness Protection come to existence.

She said that the currently policy on perusing charges on criminal cases was a policy passed by the Attorney General in 2008. Since then, with the changes that has come to pass to the nature and the number of crimes, it is no longer the best policy for the state of today and needs to be revised.

At the ceremony tonight the Strategic Plan of the Prosecutor General’s Office was inaugurated by the Chief of Justice, Abdulla Saeed.

The first Prosecutor General of the Maldives, Ahmed Muiz along with Attorney General, Mohamed Anil and Chief Judge of High Court, Abdulla Didi and Judge Ahmed Shakeel, currently in charge of the Juvenile Court, were in attendance at the ceremony tonight.
