Chairman and Managing Director of the Sun Siyam Group and Leader of MDA, of the Government coalition, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has said that the government intends to develop private airports across the country to increase the number of tourists visiting the Maldives.

He said that progress is inevitable with the development and openings of hotels and resorts of different levels. And the development of domestic airports is also a big advancement and especially private airports would be developed.
The MDA Leader said that more than 1 million tourists visited the Maldives and the government wants to increase the number to 7 million by 2018.
But if we want to increase the number of tourists, Siyam said that the country needs airports and resorts and hotels to service that number of tourists.
“The Maldives does not have that much bed capacity. And the airports do not have enough space to land that many airports.” Siyam said.
He said that a solution to those problems could be reached with the new runway and new airports.
Highlighting on the tourism, Siyam said that the resort and hotel business is good in the Maldives and there are no issues facing the sector. And the country is in a good state without wars and mass murders like some other countries.
