Hearing on Magistrate Nihan trial cancelled

Hearing on case against Chief Magistrate of A. Dh. Maamigili Court Ahmed Nihan for issuing an allegedly sham subpoena for President Abdulla Yameen’s arrest, scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled.

State has pressed three charges against Nihan: taking improper advantage of authority received through position, indulging in an improper act in performing official duties, and creation of a sham document and presenting it as valid.

Criminal Court media official Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that the hearing, scheduled for 2 pm, was cancelled upon request of Prosecutor General’s Office.

State has alleged that Nihan issued the sham subpoena on February 8, at around 2:45 am.

Criminal Court has ordered that Nihan be kept imprisoned until the end of trial.

Nihan requested for legal representation during the first hearing on the case.

In addition to Nihan, charges have also been raised against former Prosecutor General Muhuthaz Muhsin.
