Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the gap between meting out justice and implementing justice was one of the biggest challenges faced by the modern world.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of Institute for Security and Law Enforcement Studies (ISSLES) students who completed their first degrees, Minster Umar said that it was one of the biggest challenges faced by democratic countries.
“…It is one of the biggest challenges faced by democratic countries in today’s modern world, the difference or the gap between justice system and law enforcement system or between citizens and justice system,” said Umar.
Giving an example of such a challenge, Umar said that police may receive intel of narcotics being packed in a house in the middle of the night while the judge was fast asleep after a long day of work.
“…Therefore judges may sometimes hesitate to personally go and open the courthouse and do it. And at other times, it may take a lot of time. As all this time passes, it is the law enforcer who is stuck in the middle,” he said.
Umar said that the challenge was not unique to Maldives alone, and that it was faced by all countries.
He said that the solution to the problem was to be fully aware and informed of what you were doing.
“…To solve all this, we need to know what we are doing.”
