An argument between the MP for Addu-Meedhoo consistuency Rozaina Adam and the MP for Vili-Malé constituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has heated up to the point of cancelling the morning session of the Parliament sitting today.
When MP Nihan began responding to the points made by MP Rozaina during the debate for the amendments presented to the Law of the Prosecutor General, MP Rozaina responded with interruptions by calling Regulation Issues and said that one cannot resort to bring the names of the parents in to the issue.
Debating on the amendment, MP Rozaina said that the MP for Mid-Henveiru constituency, MDP’s Ali Azim would be sentence today at 11 a.m. and he is being charged with disobeying official orders from the Police. And she said that it is like how MP Nihan acted in the protests against the earlier regime back then.
“When this case came this far, photos of PPM Parliament Group’s leader, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik sitting on a barricade are there. Jumping over the barricade, photos are there. I wonder if those things are done upon invitation by the Police.” MP Rozaina said.
Responding to MP Rozaina, MP Nihan said that he is not saying anything on the Parliament floor not because he can’t say anything. He said that he is calm on the Parliament floor due to the “principles” he has learned.
“This for Thulusdhoo constituency Member, Rozaina thinks only she has a mouth. Let’s properly set in 1970 and start. With “Choppatu Adamfulhun” let’s start. That’s not the name for her, your honor (to the President of Parliament). We’ll call her “Rozaina Choppatu.” If Maumoon Abdul Gayoom came to the Presidency and didn’t make the Maldivian ID Card…” MP Nihan said.
After that, MP Nihan continued after MP Rozaina finished with the Regulation Issues. And when MP Nihan resumed, MP Rozaina was standing in front of him. And MP Nihan took a mouthful of water and we saw him spray the water from his mouth to MP Rozaina’s face. With that MP Rozaina took a glass of water and threw at MP Nihan’s face.
Canceling the Parliament sitting, the President of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed said that under the power authorized to him, the sitting would be “interrupted for a moment” while members of opposing parties were arguing on both sides of the Parliament.
