Former PG remanded by ten days Former Prosecutor General (PG) Muhuthaz Muhusin has had his remand extended by ten days. The former PG was arrested for his suspected involvement in the case of the false court order to arrest President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Police have confirmed to Sun Media that the former PG’s remand was extended at the Criminal Court today.
Muhuthaz was released by the Criminal Court after his initial arrest in the case. After his release was appealed at the High Court, the court extended the former PG’s remand by 15 days which expired today.
After looking into the appeal, the High Court said that the former PG Muhuthaz went to Maamigili around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday night, allied with a Magistrate, opened the Magistrate Court and worked to get a court order to arrest President Abdulla Yameen and depose the government.
The Court said that it is essential to detain the former PG since he is a risk public safety and security. And if not detained, he might influence witnesses and try to destroy evidence.
Aside from the former PG, the Magistrate of the Maamigili Court, Ahmed Nihan was also arrested and remanded by seven days by the High Court.
The Judicial Service Commission has suspended Ahmed Nihan.
