UN has decided to assist the Maldives in it’s multi-party talks accepting President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s invitation.
United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jen?a and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom discussed the political state of the Maldives at their meeting at the President’s Office today.
At the meeting, President Yameen highlighted the importance of the multi-party talks to build confidence among the figures in the country.
The President said that it could also create a “conducive environment” on which the Government could focus on implementing the economic development projects and accelerate the democracy consolidation process.
Although the President as invited all the political parties to take part in the talks, the oppositions remain against it. Both Adhaalath Party and MDP said that they would accept the information only after all of the political prisoners have been released.
