A children’s orphanage (Kudakudhinge Hiyaa) has been opened in Hulhumalé.
The orphanage built on the empty land next to the Hulhumalé School was built by the free aid of Mahmood Al Khaja of UAE.
Children of both genders would be treated separately at the 12-room orphanage. The Hulhumalé orphanage can house 129 children.
The Gender Ministry said that more than 50 children would be transferred to the Hulhumalé Orphanage and with the school and everything set, they would face no difficulty.
The President Abdulla Yameen and the First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim attended the opening ceremony of the orphanage tonight along with other government officials.
The children to be transferred to the new orphanage are of children under 9 years according to the Gender Ministry.
