Ali Zahir: Sentence on Imran was unfair, it would be appealed

Vice President of Adhaalath Party, Ali Zahir on the legal team of the President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said that he does not believe the sentence against the Adhaalath Party President was fair and intends to make an appeal.

Ali Zahir made the statement in an interview with Sun Media following the passing of a 12-year prison sentence against Sheikh Imran tonight.

“I don’t believe this is a just sentence. This case would be appealed at the High Court.” Ali Zahir said.

According to the sentencing hearing tonight, Sheikh Imran was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of terrorism with State prosecutors alleging that Imran’s speech during protest on 1 May, 2015 had instigated violence.

Closing the sentencing tonight, Judge Bari said that the full report of the trial would be released tomorrow.
