The Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and MP for East Devon, Hugo Swire has welcomed the Maldivian government’s decision to restart negotiations with the opposition political parties.
Swire tweeted that it was “good to hear plans for all party dialogue.”

Last month, Swire visited the Maldives and met with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the President of PPM and former President of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom along with the leader of other political parties.
Strengthening the relationship between the UK and the Maldives was discussed in his meeting with President Abdulla Yameen.
The President’s Office said that the President hopes to continue that discussion successfully in such a way that would benefit the people of Maldives.
