Maldives Association for Construction Industry (MACI) has welcomed the decision by the Department of Immigration to deny entry to expatriates brought by companies outside MACI and the Housing Ministry.
A statement signed and issued by President of MACI, Mohamed Ali Janah, tonight said that that the regulation that came into effect from 1 February is a strong step and welcomes the decision.
“This association believes that because of this step, the work being done to resolve the problems in the construction industry by this association gets more empowered and resolve and in the government’s efforts to resolve the expatriate’s problems, the role of this association would be wider.” The statement from MACI said.
MACI has advised their members and other construction companies to support the government’s efforts for labor management and not employ illegal expatriates.
Regarding the issue, the Information Officer of Immigration, Hassan Khaleel said that the new regulation by the immigration would reduce the number of illegal expatriates.
