Sh. Noomaraa Island Council has said that a 4-year-old girl has been murdered on the island.
Noomara Island Council President Ahmed Vishan spoke to “Sun” and said that the murder took place sometime Wednesday night; and that it is most likely that the girl was stabbed to death by her mother.
“She has stab wounds. The knife with the blood was kept on the cupboard. It is unclear yet where all the girl had been stabbed as she was found lying on her stomach,” said Vishan.
Vishan said that girl’s mother had some mental issues. And that the mother and the girl slept in the same room Wednesday night.
The murder was reported to Noomaraa Island Council by the girl’s grandfather who said he discovered the murder when he woke up for dawn prayer, and immediately informed the Council.
Noomaraa Island Council said that police stationed at Sh. Funadhoo were now on the island to investigate the case.
“The area has been sealed off and they are carrying out there investigation. They are inside at the moment,” said Vishan.
Noomaraa Island Council said that those who were at the house Wednesday night in addition to the girl were her mother, one of her mother’s siblings, and the girl’s maternal grandparents.
Police released a statement saying that the murder was reported to them at 5:40 am. And that a police team from Funadhoo were in Noomaradhoo to investigate the case.
The statement also said that a Family and Healthcare team based in H. Dh. Atoll and a police forensic team was on their way to the island right now.
