Shumba Gong to be kept under arrest until end of trial

Criminal Court has ordered that Ahmed Ashraf (Shumba Gong) from Lh. Hinnavaru be kept under arrest until end of his trial.

The order came during the first hearing of his trial, held on Monday.

Shumba, a close ally of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been charged with threatening an individual.

State prosecutor said during the hearing that Shumba had threatened bodily harm and harm to possessions of Zahid Rameez from S. Hithadhoo via different mobile phone numbers and through social media numerous times during October, 2015.

Shumba denied the charge against him. Saying that he had not threatened Zahid.

“I deny the charge. I did not do that,” said Shumba, during the hearing.

The next hearing is to be held after 15 days.

The trial is presided over by Judge Abdulla Mohamed.
