President opens new artificial beach

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has opened the new artificial beach on the west side of Malé City as, “Rasfannu.”

After officially opening the beach, the President and the First Lady along with high ranking officials of the state took a tour of the place. The artificial beach is designed so a large number of people can visit and relax at the same time.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Abdulla Yameen said that he does not want the people of Malé City to live in a concrete jungle instead, he want to make it a peaceful joyous place.

The President said that the new artificial beach is opened to the people of all ages and keeping it clean and peaceful is the responsibility of the people.

The new artificial beach resembling the face of an island consists of two fishing platforms, showers, toilets and a barbeque area along with an exercising area.

A restaurant, nursery and a pavilion is yet to be built in the area.

Speaking at the opening ceremony tonight, Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the withering area of the City has been transformed into a joyful, hopeful place.

Minister Muizzu said that the road next to the beach would be opened for foot traffic alone at specific times of every day. And while the road is in general closed to heavy vehicles, a floor automatic drop-arm system has been established for the first time in Malé to manage the traffic.

The Minister said that in an effort to ensure the safety of the water, tests would continue to be conducted for a year.

While the Police have been charged with keeping the security in the No Smoking artificial beach, CCTVs are to be installed to monitor the area.
