Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s Office has responded to the allegations made the Police today claiming that the ex-President pushed for the arrest of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom with a forged court order to arrest the President.
The former President’s Office issued a statement today saying that President Nasheed made a call to Brigadier General Zakariya Mansoor when he heard that there was a court order to arrest President Yameen. The statement said that President Nasheed asked the Brigadier General if he had heard any such news and asked to do things right.
Sun Media has been unable to get a response from Brigadier General Mansoor regarding his conversation with President Nasheed since his phone has been switched off.
Superintendent of Police, Mohamed Riyaz said today that former Maldivian President, Mohamed Nasheed called a high-ranking military officer and said that a court order has been issued for President’s arrest and urged the officer to make the arrest.
He said that a group of people travelled from Male’ to an island at around 3 am Sunday morning and tried to issue a court order with a judge working in a magistrate court in an atoll.
The statement from President Nasheed’s Office made accusations against President Yameen of being involved in corruption, money laundering and sorcery which is completely against the Islamic faith and called for his arrest.
“Those cases are well informed on the people of Maldives and the international community. If the restriction to investigation those cases by the Police is the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, we call to the security forces to investigate these crimes by arresting the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.” The statement from the President Nasheed’s Office said.
