President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been named as a defence witness for the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb in the case of misuse of official authority against him.
The President’s name was offered as a defence witness in the issueing of a Malé atoll lagoon to Ebony Pvt. Ltd. for 50 years. The former Youth Minister Mohamed Maleeh was also named as a defence witness in the case.
Permanent Secretary of the Tourism Ministry, Soalih and two legal officers at the Ministry, Shuhud and Faseeh Zahir was also presented as defence witnesses.
Adheeb’s lawyer, Moosa Siraj said that President Yameen was named as a defence witness to prove that the lagoon was leased to Ebony Pvt. Ltd. under the advice and permission of the President.
And the legal officers of the Tourism Ministry were named to prove that the lagoon was leased under the advice of the legal team.
A number of documents were presented as documentary evidence by the state today.
The USD 1 million received from leasing the lagoon to Ebony Pvt. Ltd. was deposited to an account of SOF Pvt. Ltd.
The documentary document against Adheeb include the bank statements of the accounts of the company.
Head Judge on the case, Abdulla Mohamed closed the hearing today after announcing a hearing to take witness testimonies in 15 days.
